The town’s library and the community centre offer leisure activities for local residents. The activities of these institutions provide major inspiration for the cultural life of the population. The community centre features a large concert hall and organizes concerts, cabaret shows and activities for children, adolescents and adults. It also hosts important patriotic ceremonies and the events held by the Third Age University. The most important local event is the feast of Żychlin. Every year in May, we hold an open-air mass event, whose concerts and other attractions for the young and the old draw several thousand people, local residents and visitors from neighbouring towns and villages.
The local sports associations organize activities for children and adolescents. The most important sports facility is our modern sports hall. For several seasons this has hosted Indoor Football League matches. The district also boasts a modern sports hall at the school in Grabów and multifunctional sports fields in Żychlin and Dobrzelin. The sports clubs operating in Żychlin offer the chance to practice karate, football, basketball and volleyball, while nature lovers can enjoy the beautiful forests located in this area.
There are quite a few interesting places around Żychlin worth mentioning. Located just a five minute drive from the town centre is the Castle Museum in Oporów. This is one of the best-preserved medieval buildings in Poland, being one of the late Gothic knights’ lowland defence centres. It was once the centre of the vast estates owned by the Oporowski family, with the Sulina coat of arms. The building, standing on an island, with its walls reflected in the waters of the moat, creates a unique and picturesque image surrounded by the ancient trees of its landscape park.
One of the first classicist palaces in Poland was built in Walewice, during the reign of the last king of the Polish Republic, Stanisław August Poniatowski. In a museum exhibition in Łowicz one may see collections focused on various subjects covering ethnography, history, archaeology and fine arts. The museum collections in Łowicz date back to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Łowicz Museum also includes a Skansen exhibition in Maurzyce, which features historical buildings originally from the former Duchy of Łowicz.
The Aqua Park in Kutno is a place in which one can relax and recover at the sports and recreation swimming pools, or else take advantage of its other facilities, including a massage parlour and a fitness club. This facility is just a 20 minute drive from the centre of Żychlin.
